Christmas Storm Warning: Strong Winds, Rain, Snow Melt Expected... Multi-Day Power Outages Possible

We are expecting extremely strong winds overnight and into Christmas morning. Sustained winds could be as high as 30 mph with gusts of 60 mph or more, accompanied by heavy rains.

Eversource is forecasting this as a Level 4 event, meaning there is the possibility of power outages lasting 2 to 6 days with 10 to 30 percent of customers without power. Consider making preparations for a power outage that may last several days and nights. Freezing temperatures at night could make this an especially challenging event for residents without power.

If you are traveling tonight or on Christmas, please use extreme caution. Heavy rain and warm temperatures will trigger increased snow melt which could lead to flooding. The biggest risk is probably from falling trees and limbs. By Christmas night, there is also the risk of freezing roads. Our Public Works crew is taking a proactive approach and will pre-treat roads, but icy conditions are likely.

We hope you will have a safe and merry Christmas and that this storm will not be as severe as forecasted.
