Lebanon Green Archaeology Activity June 8 – June 12

The Lebanon Historical Society has hired TerraSearch Geophysical LLC to conduct an archaeological dig to uncover the Bake House used by the Hussars, who camped in Lebanon from November 1780 to June 1781. The existence of the bake house in this location has been confirmed through Ground Penetrating Radar, which clearly displayed its foundation.

According to the document, the encampment was situated along Exeter Road (Route 207), west of the Congregational Church. TerraSearch has also conducted metal detection in the described area and has identified over 300 artifacts to date. These include French and Spanish coins, musket balls of varying calibers, cannonballs, buttons, and many other items that reflect the presence of the Continental Army and militia.

TerraSearch is continuing its efforts to locate the actual encampment site. They have identified the location of a field hospital situated between Pease Brook and Smith Road, on the left side of what is now private property, with the permission of the property owners.
