Update on Goshen Hill and Chappell Road Bridge Work

The Board of Selectmen has worked out an arrangement with the two contractors responsible for the two outstanding bridge projects on Goshen Hill and Chappell Road. This week, the Towns’ engineering firm visited the concrete facilities which are pouring the box culverts for these two sites and confirmed that work was underway to finally produce the culverts. However, the Town was informed we could face additional delays in the construction due to the limits caused by winter weather. Because the Board of Selectmen feels reopening these roads is a priority, the Selectmen agreed to allow the contractors to place the culverts and temporarily reopen the roads for the winter and finalize the work when weather permits.

On Goshen Hill Road, installation is set to begin on November 30 and the roadway should be temporarily opened on January 13. This will allow the road to be reopened through winter. Weather permitting, the contractor will remobilize, remove temporary features, and complete the roadway beginning April 1 with completion by May 4.

On Chappell Road, work is scheduled to resume on November 23 with the installation of the box culvert to begin on this date. By January 15, the roadway should be reopened temporarily with one-way alternating traffic. Weather permitting, the project will be completed before spring. The Board of Selectmen intends to use all tools available to keep this schedule on track.

The Board of Selectmen was also informed on Tuesday night that the culvert for Smith Road is expected to arrive and be installed in December.
