Jonathan Trumbull Jr. House

Jonathan Trumbull Jr (1740-1809), son of Connecticut’s Revolutionary War governor, served as General George Washington’s military secretary 1781-1783, member of the United States House of Representatives from 1789 to 1795 and the Senate from 1795-1796 before being elected Governor of Connecticut in 1707 to his death in 1809.

His elegant house (built before 1760 and remodeled circa 1778-1793) on the east side of the Lebanon Green features elegant woodwork by Lebanon woodworker Isaac Fitch. Washington likely spent the night of March 4, 1781 at this house as he traveled from Newport, RI to Hartford, CT.

The house is now a museum owned and operated by the Lebanon Historical Society.
